Reno mattresses, composed of double-twisting mesh filled with stone, are pivotal in constructing retaining walls for river and seashore protection.
Applications:
River and Streambank Protection: Stabilize river and stream banks, preventing erosion and safeguarding adjacent land.
Coastal Protection: Act as barriers against wave action and tidal forces, preventing beach erosion and ensuring coastal stability.
Reno mattress Stormwater Management: Utilized in urban stormwater systems to control runoff, retain soil, and filter pollutants, improving water quality downstream.
Slope Stabilization: Reinforce and stabilize steep slopes or hillsides, reducing landslide risks and preserving natural landscapes.
Road and Railway Embankment Protection: Deployed along road and railway embankments to reinforce structures, prevent soil erosion, and ensure long-term stability and safety.
Benefits of Reno Mattresses:
- Effective Erosion Control: Reno mattresses offer reliable protection against erosion in various environmental conditions, safeguarding critical infrastructure and natural habitats.
- Versatility: They can be adapted to different project requirements and site conditions, making them suitable for a wide range of applications, from riverbank stabilization to coastal protection.
- Durability: Constructed from high-quality materials and robust mesh structures, Reno mattresses have a long service life and can withstand the forces of nature, including water flow and wave action.
- Cost-Effectiveness: Compared to traditional erosion control methods, Reno mattresses are often more economical to install and maintain. They provide a cost-effective solution for erosion management and slope stabilization projects.
- Environmental Friendliness: Reno mattresses are environmentally friendly solutions that promote habitat restoration and conservation. They blend seamlessly into natural landscapes while providing essential erosion control benefits.

Details
Gabion baskets come in various specifications, including wire thickness, opening size, box dimensions, and material grade. These baskets are made of hexagonal wire mesh and are divided into cells, marked at intervals of 1 meter or 3 feet. This marking helps reinforce the structure of the gabion basket, also known as a reno mattress. The wire used can be galvanized (either hot-dipped or electro-galvanized) or PVC coated, offering different levels of durability and resistance to elements. The hexagonal weave of the wire mesh can be straight twist, reverse twist, or double direction twist, and the galvanization can happen before or after weaving, depending on the desired specification.
We follow the significant international standard in our manufacturing process.
ASTM 975 Standards:
- Style 1 Galvanized wire as per ASTM A 641, class 3 soft temper
- Style 2 Same as style 1 with extra coating with PVC.
- Style 3 Zn-5Al or Zn-10Al coated wire as per ASTM A 856, also known as Galfan wire.
Reno mattress EN 10223-3 Standard:
- Galvanized wire meets EN 10244-2 and old BS 443
- Wire tensile strength is between 380N/mm2 and 550N/mm2 as per BS 1052.
Our Tolerance Standard:
- On the hexagonal double-twisted wire mesh, the size of the opening should not exceed +/-5%
- on the nominal dimension
Conclusion
In conclusion, Reno mattresses are useful for stopping erosion in rivers and protecting coastlines from waves. They also help manage stormwater in cities and stabilize steep slopes. These mattresses are strong and last a long time, making them a good choice for many projects. They’re versatile, cost-effective, and help protect the environment. Overall, Reno mattresses are a smart solution for keeping land and infrastructure safe from erosion.
